My Favorites To Buy At Zero Waste Shops
Obviously plastic is everywhere so it’s basically impossible to avoid, but I had a very intelligent friend tell me some very scary things about plastic that really shocked me into prioritizing glass.
Plastic products often contain chemicals like BPA and phthalates, which are known as hormone disruptors. These chemicals (from the containers) can leach into our food, drinks and beauty products.
When these disruptors enter our bodies, they mimic estrogen and other hormones, which can throw off our natural hormonal balance. Over time, this can lead to a variety of health issues (from reproductive concerns to metabolic changes). By going to zero waste stores and refilling our glass jars, we reduce our exposure to these synthetic chemicals.
Beyond the impact on our personal health, plastic waste also has lasting effects on the environment, which ultimately circles back to us. When plastics break down, they release microplastics and toxic chemicals into soil and water sources, entering the food chain and affecting ecosystems.
