Visiting The Famous Tulip Gardens
When a global bucket list experience is only 12 miles from your home 🥹🌷💛🐝
I always wondered if the Dutch flower fields were overhyped… but now living here and getting to witness the blooms for the first time this spring… it’s absolutely incredible!
Keukenhof is the world’s largest spring flower garden (85 acres) with over 7 million bulbs of flowers HAND planted, including 800+ varieties of tulips! each year, over a million tourists visit with 80%+ coming from outside of the Netherlands.
Every corner of this park was beautiful in a different way. There’s 100+ cherry blossom trees, 75+ pieces of art, waterways, walking paths, ponds, and more. If you ever get the chance to experience - I highly recommend!
Things to note if you plan to visit:
The gardens are only open for a short spurt from March to May
During this time, they are open 7 days per week, including Sundays
Both pets and kids are allowed. We saw lots of both!
There is a huge picnic area where people brought their own food and beverages. We did as well, so we had a little wine and cheese picnic.
Weekends are much busier than weekdays, of course, but honestly the crowds didn’t bother us at all. Guests were super respectful, quiet and kept on the walking paths.
You can take the 850 bus from various pickup points such as Haarlem, Leiden or Amsterdam. You can book it in advance or just use your card / apple pay when you get on and off. It’s about $15-$20 roundtrip depending where you ride from.
We had no issues bringing in a professional camera, and also saw quite a few other people taking photos with nice cameras!
