Apple and Pear Picking at Olmenhorst
I had one thing on my September bucket list ~ apple and pear picking at Landgoed de Olmenhorst. I found this orchard last year after the self-picking days passed and I was so bummed. This year I marked my calendar so we didn’t miss it!
Landgoed de Olmenhorst is a 31-hectare historic organic fruit estate located in Lisserbroek which is about 45 minutes southwest of Amsterdam. We journeyed there by public transport and it was admittedly a bit of a hassle with the transfers, so we took an Uber home. The area around it is absolutely beautiful so next time we will rent a car so we have full freedom. Side note: if you do visit by car, you will need to reserve parking in advance on their website which is less than $10 for the day so it’s very affordable.
The property is gorgeous. Even though the self-picking was the highlight of the experience for me, there are TONS of other activities happening around the property that are super family friendly. You can find tons of vendor tents. We purchased a delicious sourdough pesto loaf, honey and an infused olive oil.
You could also find a variety of things at vendor tents like baskets, cured meats, children’s books, sheepskin throws, candles, wine, fruit juices, baby clothes, art, and more. There was also a building with a candle making workshop happening. Over at the festival grounds, you can find carnival rides, food trucks, a coffee cart, sandbox for kids, live music and tons of tables to sit down for people watching.
The property is really beautiful. You can wander the self-pick orchard areas at your own leisure. We brought our own basket and took home 5 massive apples which was €5.40 and they were delicious! So fresh and crispy.
I think Landgoed de Olmenhorst could be enjoyed by anyone of all ages. They were super family friendly but it’s also so romantic. There was a wedding happening the day we went and I couldn’t help imagining Clay and I getting married there someday ~ how magical that would be! It could also be fun to attend with friends with the live music, beer tents, and orchards. I already can’t wait to go again.
