How I Found Out I’m Pregnant on April Fools Day

Let’s take a little trip through my pregnancy timeline.

February 14-17: My last period

March 8: Baby was conceived in Tulum. We went out for dinner, had a few drinks, went dancing until 3am, and had street tacos. A bystander took these photos for us at 4:40am right before we went home. I’m so grateful for these pictures because it’s the last documentation of just us. It was such a fun memorable night - a celebration of youth and freedom.

March 14: I went to lunch with two girl friends and we started talking about motherhood because I had a subconscious inkling that I was pregnant.

March 15: In times of the unknown, I did what the majority of us do nowadays… I asked Chat GPT a bunch of questions lol.

March 17: Ceara and I recorded our monthly Patreon episode of Already Friends (peep the green for St. Patty’s) and we talked about alll things pregnancy, birth, and parenthood for the first time ever on the podcast. Below is a screenshot of a portion of the transcript talking about how much Tulum helped mentally prepare me in seeing myself as a mom.

March 20: my period never came, and it’s usually very predictable so this is when I started getting really suspicious.

March 26-31: I was in Omaha for a work trip and KNEW I was pregnant because I was experiencing cramping that I hadn’t felt before. I think this was due to “implantation” which is when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. My friend and I wanted to get margaritas at our favorite spot, and I told her I didn’t think I should because I very well might be pregnant.I debated taking a test, but I wanted to wait until I was back in Tulum with Clay so we could experience it together.

April 1: I got back to Tulum around 6pm and immediately told Clay we should take a test. He went and got the tests but I was tired and wanted to relax first, so we watched “The Love List” on Netflix. It was a really wholesome movie that follows the main character through a journey of “love tests” and the final test is “do you want them to be the father of your child?” and I immediately started crying. It seemed like such an insane coincidence that the movie I randomly chose was so on-theme to what I was going through, and honestly provided some relief because I know for certain if there was any man on the planet that I want to be the father of my children, it’s Clay. We go into the bathroom together around 11pm to take the test, and it was very clearly positive. I didn’t even bother taking a second one, even though it was literally April Fools Day hahaha.
