One Year In The Netherlands
Yesterday we celebrated our one-year anniversary of moving to The Netherlands! We invited friends over to honor the milestone. We prepared some yummy bites, got flowers, wine, and made cappuccinos. It felt so sweet to be in good company for a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon.
We often get asked how long we’ll stay and although we don’t know, I can say we are in absolutely no hurry to leave. I love love love our life here and am grateful for our visa every single day 🥹
Some of my favorite aspects of living here:
Walkability: No car needed where we live. We bike and walk to 90% of our daily activities.
Reliable Public Transport: The bus and train are also super convenient and affordable when we do need to use them.
History and Architecture: I am constantly in awe of how beautiful this country is. The brick streets make everything feel more charming.
Canals: Being surrounded by water adds such a lovely element to life. We often feed the ducks, picnic on the lawn, and watch people go buy on boats. We try to rent a boat to cruise around ourselves every month or two as well.
Aesthetic Cafes / Bakeries / Restaurants: There are SO many incredible places to enjoy a coffee within a mile of our home. I’m never bored with all of these spots to explore and hang out in. I’m at one now!
Flowers: The Dutch LOVE their flowers. We’ve made it a part of our weekly routine to buy fresh flowers at the market and make bouquets to place around the house. In spring, the whole country blooms in the most magical way.
To think this journey started with an empty apartment, a borrowed air mattress and a couple of suitcases (which got lost on the way and were delivered a few days later).
SO much life has happened since last June that it honestly feels like it’s been yearssss since we moved here, which I think is a good thing! that means we’re soaking it in and romanticizing every day.
